  • New GTA 6 ‘Physical’ Edition Ships Without a Disc — Here’s What You’ll Get Instead

Rockstar Games has revealed an important detail ahead of GTA 6 pre-orders going live worldwide: the physical edition of Grand Theft Auto VI will not include a game disc.

According to information shared by Rockstar, players who purchase a physical copy of GTA 6 will instead receive a download code inside the box, which can be redeemed to download the game digitally on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The announcement comes as GTA 6 prepares to open pre-orders globally within the next 24 hours, with the highly anticipated title still scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026.

While many fans expected GTA 6 to follow the traditional boxed release format, Rockstar has confirmed that physical editions will function similarly to a digital purchase.

In its official pre-order details, Rockstar stated:

Players who pre-order digital versions of Grand Theft Auto VI will be able to begin pre-loading on November 12 to ensure they are able to play at launch on November 19. The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12 to support pre-loading.

The publisher has also confirmed that both a Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition will be available, though no early access period has been announced. All players are expected to gain access to the game on launch day.

The decision is likely to divide fans, especially collectors who prefer physical media, but it reflects the growing industry trend of moving away from traditional disc-based releases.
