Marvel Wolverine is already receiving changes from Insomniac Games following criticism surrounding its PS5 launch.
A new hot fix reduces the visibility of the game’s controversial ‘fart trails’, while early sales estimates suggest strong consumer interest.
Insomniac Responds to the Scent Trail Criticism
The latest hot fix reduces the opacity and intensity of Wolverine’s scent trails during gameplay. The mechanic represents Logan’s enhanced sense of smell and helps him track important items and locations.
However, some players have criticized the feature for appearing too often and making exploration feel overly guided. Insomniac says it is also exploring an option to disable scent trails completely in a future update.
Wolverine Appears to Be Selling Strongly
Despite the online criticism, Marvel’s Wolverine could be enjoying a strong commercial launch. Analytics firm Alinea estimates that the game sold around 1.9 million units within approximately three days.
The company also estimates around $130 million in revenue, with physical copies representing roughly 23 percent of sales. However, these figures are not official and should be treated as estimates.
Alinea’s methodology is also unclear, meaning Sony’s eventual sales figures will provide a more reliable picture.
Early Estimates Put Wolverine Among 2026’s Biggest PS5 Releases
According to Alinea’s estimates, Wolverine is already the sixth highest-grossing PS5 release of 2026. The estimates also place the game ahead of the reported lifetime sales of Death Stranding 2 on PS5.
Alinea’s figures suggest Wolverine is also currently outperforming Ghost of Yotei based on its early sales trajectory. These comparisons remain unofficial until Sony releases verified sales information.
For now, Insomniac is continuing to respond to player feedback while Marvel’s Wolverine builds momentum on PS5. The scent trail changes show that the studio is already making adjustments following the game’s launch response.
