The rumors were true. After weeks of speculation, leaks, and not-so-subtle teases, Activision has officially unveiled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and it’s set to launch on PlayStation 5 this October.
While many fans expected another Modern Warfare entry, the official reveal finally gives us our first look at where the franchise is heading next—and this time, the spotlight is firmly on the Korean Peninsula.
According to Activision, Modern Warfare 4 begins with North Korea launching a full-scale invasion that threatens to destabilize the world.
Players will experience the conflict from multiple perspectives. A young squad of South Korean soldiers will be fighting for survival on collapsing front lines, while fan-favorite Captain Price operates from the shadows on a personal mission that eventually collides with the larger conflict.
It’s a setup that feels very much in line with the Modern Warfare series, combining large-scale military action with more personal stories involving its iconic characters.
And let’s be honest—if Captain Price is involved, things are probably about to get explosive.

The Campaign Sounds Bigger Than Ever
One of the biggest takeaways from the reveal is the variety of locations and mission types promised throughout the campaign.
Activision has confirmed players will battle through trench warfare in Korea, New York, Paris, Mumbai, and participate in large-scale assaults to reclaim occupied territory. If that sounds ambitious, that’s because it is.
The Modern Warfare series has always thrived when it mixes blockbuster action with memorable set pieces, and Modern Warfare 4 appears to be doubling down on that formula.
Perhaps the most interesting reveal came right at the end of the trailer. Activision teased the return of DMZ, the extraction-based mode that built a passionate community during previous Call of Duty releases.
Very little information has been revealed so far, but a full showcase is scheduled for June 7 during the Xbox Games Showcase. With extraction shooters continuing to grow in popularity, many players will be keeping a close eye on how Infinity Ward evolves the mode this time around.

Can Modern Warfare 4 Bring Call of Duty Back to the Top?
While Call of Duty remains one of gaming’s biggest franchises, not every recent release has been universally loved.
Many players felt last year’s Black Ops 7 failed to live up to expectations, leaving Infinity Ward with the task of restoring momentum to the series. That’s why Modern Warfare 4 arguably carries more pressure than most Call of Duty releases.
The good news is that the reveal trailer has generated plenty of excitement already. Between the return of Captain Price, the global conflict setting, and the promise of large-scale cinematic action, Infinity Ward appears to be leaning into everything fans traditionally love about Modern Warfare.
Of course, the real test will come when gameplay is shown. What’s your first impression of Modern Warfare 4? Are you excited to see Captain Price return, or are you waiting to see gameplay before jumping aboard the hype train?
